How it Works

The SEA Scale is a questionnaire comprising 25 questions which takes 3-5 minutes to fill out online. It is completed by an adult in either a school or home setting – someone who has known the child for a while. It is ‘strengths’ based and focuses on a child’s capabilities rather than deficits

Each question asks the assessor to select how they think the child scores on a scale of 1-10 as shown.

The SEA Scale has two subscales ‘Social and Emotional Competence’ and ‘Externalising/Emotional Dysregulation’. The mean score for each subscale is provided and will be a number from 0 – 10, where 0 = a low score and 10 = a high score.

It is recommended that the SEA Scale is repeated no sooner than once every six months, but preferably at twelve month intervals. The scores from all assessments will be available for assessors to view change in a child’s social and emotional skills.
